“Overly protective is something I’ve been
my whole life and this just made sense.”

Sunscreen seems so simple...

Sunscreen exists to protect you from sunburns and the skin cancer they can cause over time.

It's become such a common item that we've come to accept we need to use it to stay safe, yet we usually just pick-up a couple of bottles as we run through the store on the way to the beach.

"One thing I've learned is that different sunscreens are made in completely different ways and they may not all be as safe as we have been led to believe."

When I became a dad, I remember my wife and I struggling to figure out which sunscreen had the best protection and the safest ingredients without being sticky and hard to get on our kids' skin on our way out the door. We were left with even more questions and no sunscreen that made us feel comfortable.

We were in need of better
sunscreen protection.

I realized this is a problem that exists for many parents and that I could do something about it.

I'll just make my own...

As a former Navy SEAL, I was often using camo face paint on all-day outdoor missions and would have to reapply over and over and over. The worst part was that it offered no real protection from the sun or other environmental elements. It really was just face paint.

I was in contact with a highly successful formulator who has been in the business for over 20 years and we formed a partnership to work on creating a superior product for SEALS and soldiers all over the USA.

While developing the product, we noticed how much better the protection was from the sun each day. It was something I wanted to wear daily, and I couldn’t believe how soft it felt. It was actually fun to put on. Unfortunately, it was originally created as a camo face paint so it was not ideal as a daily sunscreen I could apply for a normal day of running errands.

"That's when
it hit me…"

At one point, we looked at each other and we knew this could be a sunscreen for everyone. We started to explore how it would work without the camo coloring and tried to see how we could keep the same soft feel and superior protection. As I started to dig into all of the different zinc sunscreens I could get my hands on, I noticed how white and pasty most of them left my skin.

It turns out this has been one of the biggest issues to solve in the mineral sunscreen world! The formulator I was working with found a completely new way to work with non-nano zinc oxide as the ONLY active ingredient and it could be transparent. We could finally rub highly-protective zinc oxide mineral sunscreen in until it was clear, and it still felt great.

"The Overly Protective®
sunscreen was born…"
