Sunscare seems so simple...
A sunscreen’s sole purpose is to block out harsh UV rays and protect you from sunburns which can
contribute to the cause of skin cancer and sun damage over time.
If sunscreen can accomplish those things, it’s a great product, right? Maybe not...
With the world becoming more health and environmentally
conscious, sun protection has to answer to bigger questions:
- Is this product not only safe for my skin but good for it too?
- Is this made by a company I can trust and confidently stand behind?
- Are these ingredients safe for the environment?
Amavara is here to provide you with a luxurious line of products that will fit seamlessly into your lifestyle. Our sunscreens are carefully crafted by a world-renowned skin care formulator and are full of better protection and better ingredients, that will leave you with a better feel.
Better Protection
The EarthWell® Difference Is Clear
Zinc sunscreen isn't new, but with our breakthrough formulation it's finally better.
The days of using zinc oxide sunscreens to cover your nose in a thick white goop are over. Our EarthWell® Zinc technology allows for a higher concentration of naturally sourced non-nano zinc oxide than most other sunscreen brands while still rubbing in clear.
It's a new way of mixing the right ingredients together to form a more flexible zinc formula that can protect you without staying so rigid it leaves you looking white and ghost-like at the beach.
Why does this matter?
Most chemical sunscreens, which do get absorbed into your skin over the course of the day, include ingredients like Oxybenzone or Retinyl Palmitate.
Oxybenzone is rated by the Environmental Working Group as an 8 out of 10 on the hazard score rating scale for its role in mimicking hormone behaviors like estrogen. This ingredient is sometimes associated with endometriosis in women and can increase the production of estrogen in men, which can reduce testosterone production and increase the risk of cancer.¹
Retinyl Palmitate, when applied IN sunlight, may not only NOT prevent cancer, it can actually accelerate tumor growth or burning incidents.²
What about Broad Spectrum Protection?
Broad Spectrum sun protection has become something of a buzzword as it relates to sunscreens. What it actually means is that the product should be protecting against UVA and UVB rays.
Most chemical sunscreens can only accomplish this by using an ingredient like Oxybenzone, which can potentially lead to to unfortunate hormonal side effects.
Zinc Oxide protects against UVA1, UVA2, and UVB rays as a mineral shield that you’re not absorbing, making it a superior form of protection for your body and your skin.

Trust Your Sunscreen Again
Transparency isn't just a look, it's our lifestyle.
We take pride in the ingredients we use to formulate our sunscreen. Safety is a huge priority for us and is one of the main drivers behind what pushed us to create Overly Protective®. For that reason, you’ll never find nano Titanium Dioxide or Octinoxate in our lotions or facesticks.
While ingredients like nano Titanium Dioxide and Octinoxate can help make it easier to spread Zinc Oxide over the skin until it becomes transparent, they can also cause environmental issues in our oceans and coral reef bleaching.³ ⁴
Healthy
v.s. Not Healthy
Coral bleaching events occur when an outside stimulus begins to kill the coral reef.
These events include an increase in water temperature from thermal factors like global warming, or from outside chemical factors like these ingredients. Healthy coral become stressed coral, forcing algae to leave, and eventually this starves the coral reef, bleaching it. This affects all the animals that live in the coral reef, feed from the coral reef, and hunt in the coral reef, and ultimately it will affect our tides and water quality over time.
Here’s What We’re Using Instead
Better Feel
Shield Yourself With Softness
You don’t have to slather yourself in it, but you’ll want to.
Sunscreen isn’t a new idea anymore, but it continues to be important as the cases of melanoma (skin cancer) continue to rise each year.
As daily sunscreen routines are adopted more regularly to protect from powerful UVA and UVB rays, it becomes harder and harder to ignore the feeling some sunscreens leave behind.
Overly Protective®mineral lotion and facestick sunscreens were formulated specifically to create a product you want to wear. The lightweight, silky texture feels great and is a fantastic alternative to thick, sticky lotions and oily facesticks that can leave your skin irritated.
